Yes, that is true. I'm sort of in the process of determining what will be
needed to make the '54 grill fit the '51 fenders. From what I've seen in
the magazines you can make just about anything fit just about any vehicle.
Of course I don't have the budget that most of the magazine truck owners
had. If fitting the grill to the '51 fenders is too much trouble or
expense, then I will use the entire front sheet metal from the '54
(including hood). I would like to keep the '51 fenders because they are in
much better shape than the '54 fenders.
I admire anyone who goes to the effort to make their truck as authentic as
possible, but I plan to mix and match so that my truck is what I want.
When it is finished (that is when, not if) it will have a Johnny Cash
mid-50's year model. It should look somewhat authentic from a distance, but
up close no one will know what it is other than some sort of advanced
design chevy pickup.

Ummm BOB! The grill from 54 doesn't fit the 53 and earlier, cause the
fenders are cut diff shape around grill, and they need the bump near bottom
for the park lights in the 54 grill. You CAN change the whole front end to
54, it matches cab OK, but you may need to change hood too, not sure on the
hood!
