According to the GMC Master Parts Book, the 55.2 and 56 GMC use a "GM SS
H033" rear axle, with the Spicer 45 being an option in 56. Does anyone
know if the H033 is the same rear axle as is used in the 56 Chevy? If
so, was it used in other years? The drawing in the Master Parts Book
shows the H033 as the type of rear end that you can remove both the rear
cover (10 bolts) and the carrier from the front (another 10 bolts).
Next question: Master Parts Book shows only 3.90:1 ratio for the H033.
If Chevy used the same rear end, did they offer a numerically lower
ratio?
