Hey Eric,

My in-laws have had a 1998 F350 7.3D dually since new and we still use it
on the horse farm with 200k+ miles. It came as a dually, so I can't comment
on what is involved in turning one into a dually, but I can say I've seen
single wheel conversions and found this post on a site I frequent for
PowerStrokeDiesel  (PSD) maintenance.  The axle length seems to be the
toughest nut.

As far as reliability, I believe we have replaced injectors and the one
pump (hi-pressure, I think).  Otherwise, it has been flawless at stock
power, including the transmission and many years of towing horses.  Just we
leary of any modified 7.3 and the transmission.  The engine takes well to
mild mods, but the transmission does not.
