You can't convince family and friends you are not insane unless you are
under 23 and not married.

For $1500-2000 I think you should be able to get a nice daily driver that
needs a lot of loving care.  It shouldn't be a rust bucket and it should
have a decent body for that price.  It should run pretty dependably and
yet need some "fine tuning" and possibly more.
