The grinding is pretty bad, but I did get 2nd gear last night when
driving. I'm guessing I was going about 15 mph and it slipped right in. (I
have to guess since the speedo is currently on the workbench<g>) Of course,
I was so shocked and amazed that I stopped, turned around to get the wife,
and it never went in again. When it grinds, it feels like it would if I
didn't use the clutch (I can feel the shift lever bouncing off the gears).
I haven't swapped out the top cover yet, I'll try it when the wife gives me
a garage pass. If all else fails, I have another tranny I can try.

gears while the car is moving? My first reaction would be worn syncros,
but this is unusual on 4th.
You say you've swapped the remote mechanisms. How about the top cover,
where the selector forks are? AFAIK, these are the same for all the
I'd be happy to talk you through the diagnostics you can do without
taking the gearbox out of the car. Respond off list if you're
