Chris, your answer is yes. I have experienced this. What happens is the
yokes are made of such a soft metal that when we remove the ole u-joints
(through banging and pressing in vises) we inadvertently bend the two sides
of the yoke together. This, as you have found, makes reassembly almost
impossible. Do not worry about the u-joints being too tight, they will
"readjust" themeselves after being driven a few miles. After my last time
I swore I would let the driveline shop do them all from now on.
