Sorry for entering this discussion late, but I was away from my computer all
weekend.

This must be one of those things everyone takes credit for.  I just heard it
was duct tape was originally designed to seal ammunition boxes in World War
II. It was originally green to match the boxes and called duck tape.  It
wasn't until after the war when forced air heat and air-conditioning started
becoming popular that it turned silver and started being called duct tape.
