sticking transmission

Hi all,
My 71 spit has a sticking transmission. Sometimes it will not shift out of a 
gear. The lever will simply not move. Finally with some wiggling it will go 
out of gear. Happens more when you just start it and especially after it is 
put into reverse. I am wondering if this has to do with the bushings or some 
such in the shift linkage. I am really clueless so any advice would be 
truely appreciated.
