Rear turn lens

Hello again-
   Through all of your help, we've determined that I have the rear
plinth of a pre-1970 Mk3, which I can certainly live with. Now I've
settled into a bit of confusion once again (as I do so frequently with
my Trimphs).. What criteria determine whether a car as fitted with
amber-coloured rear turning lenses versus the red-coloured ones? Now
that I have my trusty parts catalogue,(thank you TRF!) I see that they
were both fitted for the same range of commission numbers..
