Hi everybody

I've just been offered an opportunity to buy a '65 Mk2 (found the year/mark
using Joe Curry's invaluable database). This is VERY much a parts car - its
been sitting rotting in the rain (here in New Zealand) for many years by the
look of it. However, she does seem to have a few good parts and I kind of
feel I should try and save as much of her as I can before she really dies.

The thing that most interested me was the fact that she has what appears to
be a factory steel hardtop. Of course, as was typical of hardtops of that
era, its in very very poor shape, rusted through around the base, but it
does still have good original glass. Being fairly rare, what sort of hope
do you think there is for a hardtop in this kind of shape? The interior of
the car is non-existant (really) but again, there is the odd small thing I
think is worth keeping so that in the future, when someone asks for one...

Also, the front and rear bumpers are in surprisingly good shape! I think
this alone has encouraged me to buy the car and salvage anything else I can!

Anyway, thought I'd just share this little story with you all because I
always read your stories of parts cars or even complete cars going for an
absolute song over there in the US; while the very few of us in NZ/Australia
find it very difficult to even find a car in any shape! I also understand
the old Mk "1" and 2 are getting pretty rare these days. Unfortunately the
car I found doesn't have a good panel on it, save possibly the bonnet and
boot (trunk) lid. Not sure about the chassis either...

Regards,

Paul.
