Bellhousing Question

I am swapping my non o/d trans for an o/d trans.  I can't seem to get my old
bellhousing to mount to the o/d trans.  The problem appears to be where the
shaft comes from the front of the trans in through the bell housing.  The
bellhousing doesn't seem to fit over the shaft at the end where it comes out
of the trans.  Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas.  I was hoping to go
for a ride sometime this weekend.
