Well I got another surprise from my car this weekend. I had pointed out to me
that my vacuum advance was not connected. I have had "Jade" for over six years
now, and I learn more about her and cars in general with each passing problem.
Anyhow I had a friend peering into "Jade" looking at some options to lower the
running temperature of the car, and had calmly pointed out that I had no
vacuum advance. Now, I must admit I have/had no idea what the purpose of
vacuum advance is. After having it explained to me I realized that someone
disconnected it, and I think filled with silicone the connection that must go
to the carb. My humble questions are:
i) how important is the vacuum advance and how will having it/not having it
affect the performance of my car. My friend has indicated that it will affect
the power of the car quite significantly.
ii) why would someone disconnnect it? should I reconnect it?
iii) just to confirm - where should it connect on a CD150 carb?
I guess I feel a little silly about not realizing this, but when I lived in
Vancouver I had a mechanic that helped me get through emission testing, so I
assumed anything like this would be noticed corrected. In I remembered that
many of the rubber tubes that attach in/out of the carb were re-arranged at
one point. Anyhow any advice would be appreciated.
