I have a squealing noise coming from the clutch (bell housing) only when the
clutch pedal is almost depressed fully. I assumed it was the throw out
bearing and so I changed it. No luck, same noise. When I had the tranny
removed everything seemed to be in good working order, the clutch disc is new
and the pressure plate is nearly new. At this point I am completely stumped, I
should add that this spitfire has been a three year project for me that I
towed home, so since I have not yet driven the car this strange noise may have
always been there. This noise seems to change in pitch ( and usually takes
about 5 minutes after starting the engine to start making noise) . I have the
trans cover off and can see the throw out fork assemly securing pin vibrate
while it is noisy, but this happens only at a specific position of the clutch
pedal, about an inch from the floor. I am looking forward to all and any
suggestions as I am anxious to finally get this baby on the road. This is a
1970 spit with a 1500 engine and trans, and in case your wondering, yes I did
check the trans oil.
