One way... (all 8 port heads):
If the front pulley is the thin type like an 1147, it's a small journal.
If it's the thicker type like a 1500, it's the big journal...

Assuming switching hasn't occured!

I think the flywheel is heavier for the big also.  Clutch recessed?

My car on the website below is a small J 1300.  I'm not sure how well the 
pulley shows in the pics...
