Subject: 3 rail gearbox question

Greetings once again,

Is it possible to put GT6 gears in a 3 rail Spitfire transmission case?
If
so, is it a straight swap or are there modifications that need to be
done?
Thanks to all!

BillG

Bill,
Because the input shaft contains one of the critical gears, it has to be
included. Actually, aside from the difference in ratios, there is very
little difference in the GT6 3 rail and the MkIV Spit 3 rail gear boxes
of the same vintage.

So, you can use the gt6 box but will have to cut down the input shaft
(disk which is longer) and use a different clutch that matches the 1" 10
spline configuration of the GT6 input shaft.

Regards,
Joe
