I used a silicone spray on the bushing and then, with a bit of effort,
pushed them in by hand.

Like Doug said, check the part # and make sure you are putting the right one
in the hole.

I assume that you are talking about the plastic trunnion bushings...

I have found they could always be inserted by hand, but you had to
push pretty hard.  

Possibly you got front and rear bushings mixed up?  They
are not the same part number.
