I'm a little late reading my email, but I believe I can answer your 
questions on caliper placement.

As a former brake engineer for the former big three, the caliper 
position is more of a packaging issue rather than its effect on placement.
The rear calipers can be mounted anywhere from the 9:00 position up and 
around to the 3:00 position.
You wouldn't want to place them lower than that to keep them clear of 
road blast and stone impingement.

Mount them where you can most logically place the parking brake cable. 
Also it doesn't matter if the cable comes out in the front or from the 
rear of the drum in hat assembly.
