HELP!! alternaltor woes

Well i've spent all of today trying to get it to work.  I had a generator in
the car, everything worked fine.  I took out the generator put in a lucus
alternator form a later midget. Ran the big vrown wire to the battery, and the
little wire to the ignition light, and eliminated the regulator.  Nothing
works now, I mean NOTHING!  no ignition light, it won't even turn over!!!!
HELP!!!
