Paul,

My limited experience of the early type tach with the LOOP is that the loop
can be absolutely critical in getting the tach to do anything and you can
spend hours fiddling around.  My only recommendation is to get a later tach
that connects with conventional spade end connectors.

The wire loop type tachos are for masochists - just my two pence worth.

Does anyone have any advice on the loop?  I assume that the loop should be
a certain size?  Haynes says: "... should form a symmetrical loop, and not
be pulled tight against the plastic former."
