     Hello listers,

I want to clean and re-oil my K & N air filter (weber down draft
installed on my 1275) but don't have easy access in acquiring and
really don't want to use the "K&N cleaning solution or the K&N filter
     oil"

Their web page WWW.knfilter.com clearly states not to use gas,
solvents or the like to clean and I quote on the re-oiling:

"Do not use automatic transmission fluid, any kind of motor oil or
diesel fuel to oil a K&N Filter. Do not use "WD-40", "LPS" or any
other type of light-weight spray lubricants to oil a K&N Filter. Any
of those products will damage the filter or degrade its filtering
     ability."

Sounds like a manufactures ploy to sell their own product to me. I'm
a realist. What do you listers use (those of you who have K&N filters
that is) to CLEAN and then re-oil your filters? Are we all doomed to
buy the K&N cleaning solution and filteroil to keep our filters
     functioning properly?

Looking forward to your responses. TIA.

     Dave
