I have a question about the throwout bearing in my 1977 Midget.
All of the manuals show the bearing release lever being held
in on one side by a pin that is drive through the bell housing
and the release lever. When I unbolted the transmission from the
engine out came my bearing release lever. It appears the my release
lever was not pinned in place. Now I have a couple of questions.

        1. How could this work without being pinned in place? The
car shifted fine before I removed the transmission.

        2. All of the catalogs show 1 bushing and 1 pin. What I found
in my car was: 0 pins, 2 bushings one pressed into the top
half of the bell housing and on in the bottom half. The one
in the bottom half can be removed very easily and the top half
very tight (would need to be driven out).

        3. What the heck is going on?

Any ideas. I figure I would order a new pin and bushing and see how/if
the stuff fits together. Anyone have a better idea?

Thanks,
