I saw this on a TR6.
The inside of the amp gauge was all corroded, this also made him think
his alternator was going bad too.
For a sure test, just hook up the 2 wires together and bypass the amp
gauge, if it's all fixed, it's time to disassemble and clean the amp
gauge.
