I went through a series of great obstacles to get out in my garage last
night, but by golly, I was determined to get that distributor back on the
car. Finally got out there by about 8:30 (when of course somebody knocked
on the door and then the glass door of the entertainment center fell off,
then the space heater in my garage caused the breaker to flip before I got
warm...). I took all the distributor hardware off the car, including the
little gear that sits on top of the oil pump, put it all back in...stared at
it...took it all back out and over to the work bench..stared at it...then
finally found the problem. You know that ring clamp that holds the
distributor in place? Well, it had gotten a bit out of shape, and a little
microscopic portion of it was touching the distributor, keeping it from
going all the way in. Juuust enough friction. Light even came through it.
A screwdriver-as-a-lever later, I had it spread further apart and the
distributor mounted once again on the car. Isn't it always the simple
things that cause the most problems? :-) After I got it back on I found
that one of the clips that holds the cap in place had broken off. But at
least it's progress...

Now on to the electric fan wiring...

adrian,
wishing he could debug mechanical problems like he can software problems...
