Hi, Vincent --
If you can't get a good lead from the guy you bought the car from, then about
the only resource you have left is the state motor vehicle department (assuming
the car was previously owned in your state, or you can identify what state the
car came from).  Unfortunately, many state agencies keep the records only for a
surprisingly short time, and some of them don't consider the records available
to non-official inquiries (as in police only).  In the latter case, maybe you
can find a policeman friend to help you out.
