Unplug the alternator, hook up a volt meter to the large terminal "B"
(battery)
fire up the car briefly, check the meter, you want 14 volts or so coming
out of the alternator when it is disconnected from the battery.
Be brief, you WILL blow the diode if you keep the running while
disconnected.
