Well, I think I'm finally past the worst of my carb problems! Everyone's
probably sick of my griping by now anyway! Took the '67 vintage carbs and
PCV off my '71 Midget today and put '72 vintage carbs on, with the crankcase
venting connected to the Y going to the carbs. Ran pretty well with the
starting setup adjustments! Tweaks the idle and balanced the carbs. I still
can't seem to work out getting the mixture right, but took it for a spin and
it had good power and no backfiring! Woohoo! At least it seems to be running
well enough so that if I can find someone who knows SUs I can drive it to
them to tune it! ;-) Still need to install the charcoal canister. Then hold
on for a bit while I finish collecting the new interior - I have new carpet,
now I need the interior panels, and Moss is running a sale...
Got it fixed just in time for the storm that's supposed to slam us from
Washington up to Maine tomorrow. Some reports are calling for at LEAST a
FOOT of snow all along that stretch, with some areas getting more.
Meteorologists are saying they haven't seen conditions like this in 50
years! Oh boy!
Time to hunker down!
