Slave Cylinder Question

Sorry to keep pestering everyone with a simple master/slave cylinder
rebuild. I was studying my trusty Haynes manual, and my slave cylinder had
no retaining circlip like the diagram, nor any type of lip/groove for one to
rest in. Anything unusual there? When I pulled the slave cylinder, the
piston popped out about halfway through the removal.
