Some of you may recall I had had problems with overheating due to the turbo
set-up. The alum. core radiator got its big test this last week as I took
the car out when the temperature was 102deg. The temperature quickly rose
to 195 on the gauge, and held steady until I took the car up to 75mph for
about 5 mi. At that point it went close to 212 on the gauge (head mounted
probe), but held steady there after I opened the heater vents. Reducing
speed when I got into town, it returned to 195 steady, vents shut. Stop and
go traffic in town didn't cause overheating, and it seems that I no longer
have a problem.
So if you're running a hot motor in a Spridget in a hot climate (over
100deg), the aluminum cored Korean radiators from the local Pick-and-Pull
will solve your problem. Throw on an electric fan for the "caught in
traffic" city driving and you're all set.
