Sorry guys:  goofed up and  sent the reply privately to Jeff.  Hope nobody 
else was waiting impatiently for this bit of wisdom.   I'm still learning.

Rear axle housing for wires is 41-1/8 inches flange to flange.  For disk 
wheels it is 1 inch longer.  The BMC parts manual lists different part number 
for the hubs.   You might want to look up Mike McLean's comments of a few 
days ago or e-mail him off the list, since he signed off to go to Rendezvous 
this week and won't get this one.
