Hi, JC-

First and foremost:

Pay no attention to Paul A., Joe, for he
is weird, as you must've guessed by now.

(Paul also works for Morriservice, an excellent source of parts and
supplier
of the much loved Datsun 5 speed gearbox conversion! He also knows a
lot,
but don't tell him I said this!)

When I got started I checked and fixed
whatever was required in the following
system priorities:

1. Brakes (including tires & wheels)
2. Suspension & Exhaust System
    a. front end ("tight", shocks, springs,
    b. "other" end shackles, etc.)
3. Engine (& associated systems)
    a. mechanical condition
        1. compression test (150 or better)
        2. cylinder leak down check
    b. associated systems
        1. by way of a major tune-up
            a. valve adjustment
            b. points, condenser, cap, wires,
                plugs, coil, "ground straps".
            c. battery (cables/connections)
                & charging system & other
               electrical "problems"
            d. carbs (adjust) and general fuel
               system (filters, hoses, piping,
               etc.).

And anything else plainly visible as it became known to me over time and
miles;
windshield wipers, etc.: the "obvious"!

You already have the manuals so you are
on your way. Hopefully, you also have a
"general" tool supply to begin with along
with a floor jack and jack stands, and a
few dead cats around for wheel chocks to
hold the car "in situ", should the need arise!

CAUTION! Do not use live cats for wheel
chocks!
Live cats can walk quietly away without
warning, Joe, leaving car free to move on it's own; not good.

You have the "list" at your disposal and there are many who know much
(not me)
and who are very helpful and willing to
assist; good bunch, except for......., well,
just too numerous to mention, Joe! <vbg>

Obviously, you are now "good to go" so,
Welcome Aboard, guy!! :)
