Not stealing, but the perception that things are worse
now than they've ever been. If you read the entire
initial post rather than assuming that someone elses
observations were merely a personal attack, there were
references to morals, music, manners, etc. Corporate
"stealing", fraud, and monopolies have existed for
centuries - remember in Godfather 2 when Michael's
wife says "but Michael, giant corporations don't kill
people". His response was "who's being naive now,
Kay?". Many people realistically came to expect 50%
annual portfolio growth for the rest of their lives,
myself included for a while. Perhaps entering this
scenario with the reality in mind that things never
change all that much (my point) - you can't get
something for nothing - would have helped. Some
realized there was no such thing as a new economy long
after the traditional growth cycle had passed, people
like Greenspan were talking about the overheated,
irrational economy, and actually listened. When
nothing looks like "something", some of us look a
little closer.
