well today it was time to put the trusty old "lust bus" to an exploratory
engine disassembly! 220,000 miles on it since it was built and that was at
117,000 on the odometer.
it had less than 15lbs of oil pressure at idle with 20W-50W oil. GM
reccomends an idle pressure of 19-20 lbs(hot). so it was time to do
something before it broke something from low oil pressure.
well it's time to do a bunch-o-stuff!
mains, rods, timing chain and gears, cam, lifters, and disassembly and
cleaning of the heads and new valve seals.
i'll be done by week's end! i'm doing this with the block in the van.
*rah*-*rah*-*rah*
gotta be done before going to race at the glen! so i need a week of street
time running before towing to the track in case of any "special" problems
that might arise!.
i'm down to removing lifters, cam, heads and intake. whew! what a
day............
BTW! after towing to putnam park west of indy and back to cincinati then
home 1,500 mile round trip it only used half a quart of oil with that kind
of mileage on it! i'd say that this makes a good commercial for regular
oil changes!
