Think carefully....rear end subject to a "hard" force recently, such as
a pothole or
anything like this? This happened to me
a long time ago...turned out to be what
my mechanic called a spider gear shaft...
(probably not "correct" part name) but, it's one of the tinier gears in
there.
Or...could be a broken axle as well but
this usually makes some sort of noise
when it goes.

3.9 in any event. I've got one from my po'd '67 which I replaced with my
current
3.7 for better highway cruise performance
so nothing wrong with it. These go "good
used" for $250.00 plus shipping or
thereabouts.
I have axels as well.
