A great diagnostic tool is your tach. If the car dies, notice if the
tach
needle drops like a stone... ie. real quickly... that usually indicates a
low tension lead problem. Either loose connection or fallen off lead, (or
the coil has come loose and is grounding itself out down in the black hole
between footwell and fender. Luckily it can be retrieved with the still
attached wires... ahem... don't ask... but the car only quits when making a
hard left)
If the car wont start after a "tune-up" and the tach doesn't move at
all
whilst cranking, the points are shorted, or the LT lead isn't connected, or ??
This does NOT apply to the cable driven tachs, btw.
