They just stopped by Placerville on Hwy 50 on their way to Gardnerville
Nevada and eventually Wisconsin - or was that Minnesota?
This is the cross-country pickup of a 71 Midget from Southern
California. They've had a hot-running car, which fits the 100+ weather,
but the 14lb cap is holding and, tho it dribbles once stopped, seems
to be holding pressure fine.

The fancy wide wheels are a bit too wide and the left rear tire has been

rubbing, but a service stop in Fairfield on the way across California
saw
some adjustment for clearance. I wish now I'd given it a good jerk.

I spose husband/dad is watching the web as well as keeping in
cell phone contact and will maybe pass this on - to stop at a tire
shop and see if a wee bit more room can be found. Not critical,
but a good idea. Some rubber sludge is getting deposited inside
the fender and the tire looks rubbed, tho not severely.

The distributor vacuum hose is held on with duct tape and I wish I
had a new one for them. I have warned Teresa to keep an eye on it.
The line, if adrift, would weaken the mixture and cause overheating
and possible danger to the front 2 cylinders. Simply plugged, the car
would run fine, tho hesitate slightly on start-up.

With no dash lights, They plan to pick up a flashlight -well for sure!
Both ladies seem to be in fine spirits and enoying the adventure.

The car looks great and sounds solid. They arrived with the top down
and plan to drive like 6am to noon and 6pm to whenever, to keep the
heat manageable. I think California has been a good test and they
will probably be fine from here on. 4,000 rpm is a good speed for
an enjoyable trip and gives about 60mph?
