Geoff...

Use a bit 1/2" the size of zerk fitting shaft
to begin with to drill gently thru the "plug"
on the non-grease fitting side. Drill thru.

Explore...to use a washer or not?
I had plenty of "room" in there once we
got through and found I needed no washer
for the zerk fitting.

Go to a drill size just below what the zerk
shaft requires, install a washer if you need
one, install the fitting, "insert" the grease and you are there. Took me
not more than
45mim to do both sides with car on a lift.
