Hi Jim,

In the speedometer, the odometer drive is typically a worm drive, sector, of
various ratios, and a ratchet mechanism.  Not exactly brain surgery work,
but likely he won't find anyone willing to sell him the parts.  Neither will
he be able to calibrate the needle by magnetism when it's all back together.

Sounds like a job for the pros.  In San Deigo there is Foreign Speedometer
at 2246 1/2 University Ave, 619-298-5278.
