Frank,
You neglected to tell Larry how to pull the drain plug to create the dry
sump! Could you try to be a LITTLE helpful?
The theory behind dry-sumping is that all of that oil sloshing around in the
sump can affect the balance of the rotating assembly and also is less than
perfect at maintaining a constant flow of pressurized oil to the engine
under competition conditions (especially circle-track).
The idea is to suck the oil out of the bottom of the engine a little faster
than it gets there and transfer it to an external tank whence it gets pumped
back into the engine. The advantages only make sense in a competition
environment. The improved ground clearance is a benefit as is the ability to
lower the center of gravity to a degree.
