First you can assume the rocker assembly is worn if it isn't new.  The
way to tell is to remove the valve cover on a warm engine and start the
car. Do you see a little oil seeping from the rockers that you can wipe
up with a rag to keep it from running down the block, or does it look
like you turned the lawn sprinkler on and oil is being thrown all over
the engine compartment?  You can look for wear on the shaft it will all
be on the bottom of the shaft.

The ONLY other option that has
been suggested was that
perhaps the rocker assembly is
worn. How does one TELL if it
is worn. I have a butt load of
them to choose from, I just
can't tell a good one from a
bad one.
