Often the salvage value will be nominal, like a few hundred bucks, but 
the company is usually required to stamp the title "Salvage" which at 
least in the State of CT requires a full safety inspection and the car 
must be flatbedded to the inspection station.

Your insurance agent should handle the claim for you and the contact 
with the other party and their insurance company.
