Paper, paper, paper. Sometimes in stripping an engine with worn bearings 
you'll find a balled-up, or strung-out bit of felt attached to some orifice 
edge, and you wonder. Felt may have been the choice several decades ago, 
but then it was also used as head gaskets a long time ago. (Felpro from 
Felt Products, Co.)
