I own a 1934 Singer Le Mans whose motor was too far gone to rebuild when
I purchased the car, it was also missing too many pieces like manifold and
carbs and magneto but the biggest thing was cracked block, cracked head,
cracked crankshaft, you get the idea. I started hunting down parts and as
you can imagine for that car the parts are not at Moss. I found out that a
Spridget motor will drop in with absolutely no mods to the Singer frame and
the Spridget motor is within a inch or so in length and height of the
Singer motor. I had to fabricate special motor mounts that used the
original Singer holes in the frame and did not damage/cut/drill the Singer
frame. All that needs to be done is a slightly shorter driveshaft and of
course Mickey Mous'ing the dashboard instrumentation.

I am nearly finished with the installation of a 1098 Spridget motor in
the car and will start working on the body this summer, fantasizing a near
the end of the year drive down the road. I have to do something with the
gearbox and thinking of getting it rebuilt to save time so I can still
drive before xmas.

While doing the 1098 I am of course still looking and have found a good
original block and head for my car so I will someday get the proper motor
but I will keep it with the Spridget just because it will be more reliable
and easier to drive with. At least I have not "destroyed" a Singer
permanently.

         Mike
