Paint on original Spridget valance (behind grille) question

Has anyone ever seen a spridget valance with original paint? I think that the
area behind the grille is supposed to be painted black. Biff Jones has the
best example there probably is, BUT it's a black car, so no help. What I'd
like to know, is exactly what areas were painted; just the vertical sections
on either side of the radiator, or did they paint some of the horizontal areas
also?
