There was an interesting take on guns in The Telegraph of London today.
This week the third WPC was shot in as many months, one of whom died.
The Telegraph pointed out that the police and Crown Prosecution Service
in England spend more money tracking down and prosecuting innocent
people whose only "crime" was owning a firearm, than the next-to-nothing
money spent in tracking down criminals who are importing handguns from
Eastern Europe, or those criminals who deal in a handgun blackmarket in
England.

The growing speculation now is that all police may have to be issued and
trained in the use of firearms.

Incidently, the rigid gun laws now make it appear that the U.K. will not
be able to field a team for the Olympic shooting matches.
