fitting in head

Forgive my ingorance..There is a tapped fitting in the
smog head on my new 1275, just back of the thermostat
and down on the side, facing the passenger side. It
looks 1/2" NPT...it's gotta go into the water jacket,
right? Where does it get plumbed?
