         Take a close look at the bottom plug in the float bowl. It 
is plastic, with a brass cap, and takes an O-ring. They leak with 
today's fuels and from drying out after disuse.  It's a common size 
available at an Ace hardware, or so. Pop the plug out wit a flat 
bladed screwdriver, replace O-ring, and pop back in. With the aid of 
a mirror, you shouldn't need to remove the carb.

If that's the leak, an even better solution is to track down one of the later 
float bowls with a solid bottom. Same attachment pattern, just no potentially 
leaking plug on the bottom. I never could see what the utility of that plug 
is to begin with.
