I may have a lead on a Datsun 210 tranny for viewing soon. It is not in a car
but supposedly complete and stored in a storage shed. Unknown condition from
the owner at this time.

My questions to the list are just somewhat basic at this point because I'm not
any authority on knowing anything about transmissions accept they shift. I
know an idiot but we all have to start somewhere. And I'm just desiring to
upgrade my sprite for a better road worthy machine.

I have the archived information as previously posted described below in
quotes" " but wish to know:

Any tests one can perform on a transmission that is on the floor to check if
it is operating correctly.

What is a fair price for a Datsun 210 tranny with unknown condition or
problems?

Any other helpful information on what to look for when inspecting would be
extremely desired. I want an acceptable unit for a now good driver to make it
even better.

"A Datsun 5-speed transmission from August 1979 to 1982 Datsun 210. This can
be from a coupe, sedan or wagon.

The input and output shafts should be 20mm (about 25/32") diameter and 18
spline.

The serial number on top of the bellhousing should begin with the letter "F"
(FL, FA, FX etc. OK). The number "60" is cast into the right side of the main
case. These transmissions come from the Datsun 210, but the model number for
these cars, imbedded in the Serial Number, is B310. The model number for the
transmission, FS5W60A, is sometimes found on the Serial Number plate on the
firewall. This is not found on the transmission."
