Unless the flasher is a solid-state flasher.  Then it uses electronics to
turn on-off.
You need solid-state or electronic flashers for applications like big rigs
and if you use LED bulbs because LEDs don't draw enough current to heat the
bi-metal strip and operate that type of flasher.
