Anybody knowledgeable when it comes to tapered roller bearing
conversions on a Spridget?

I've been running a Timkin set-up, as described on these pages, several
years ago. I want to adjust them to bring the end float down to the
"smidgen" tapered bearings seem to like, but one castle notch on the big
nut is too tight (binds the hub), and the next one is too loose (more
than "just the slightest perceptible movement" of the hub on "6
o'clock-12 o'clock" rocking).

So, I need shims, right?

1. Where do I get them?

2. What size and thickness to take up about a "half flat" of the
big nut so I can get the cotter back in?

3. Do the shims go between the nut and the big washer or where?

Any knowledge would be appreciated.
