Yeah, I did the "hole in tunnel" thing on my Mk2, but not out of
frustration as I planned it all the way.  The angle drive seemed like it
would be a PIA so I didn't use one at all.  I used a Greeenlee punch
large enough to pass the serrated cable nut and just curved the cable as
it emerged from the hole.  It lies inside the cockpit along the
floor/tunnel edge and exits into the engine/trans thru the former clutch
bleeder access hole.  Carpet covers the cable inside and I just fit and
trimmed the bleeder access plug to fit around the cable - same thing for
the new tunnel hole.  Everything's neat, clean, and easy to reach.  It's
been flawless since 1991 so I wouldn't hesitate to do it again on

Hello Spridgets,

  i roont the speedo cable for the 5 speed conversion.. i have the new
  one, but i'll be darned if i can get it started into the angle
  drive. any suggestions aside from pulling the motor and tranny?
  anyone cut hole in side of the tunnel from frustration? how to patch
  same hole?

  tips, hints, comments, suggestions?
